He married Caroline Martha Birch on 8 August 1885 at the parish church of St. Peter's in Siddington near Cirencester but they never had any children. At some point early in her life, she had been sent to live with her aunt and uncle, George and Rhoda Jewell Freeman, in Siddington, Gloucestershire. Since her parents were still living in 1901, she had not been orphaned, so it is possible she was sent to the country for her health.
Note that at the time of his death Swansea was a part of Glamorgan county.
He was buried on 9 February 1921 in the consecrated ground of Plot (or section) 1, grave I-1, of Chesterton Cemetery. The Rev. E. Evans performed the burial service.
