He was born Nov. 7,1924 in New Castle, a son of the late Wayne and Matilda (Weaver) Hagerman.
He was a 1943 graduate of New Castle High School. He was a decorated Navy World War II Veteran. He served his country proudly aboard the ship the USS Mullany in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Mr. Hagerman was wounded in action and was one of only three sailors, in the ships boiler room, that survived a bombing. On another occasion, he was blown overboard after a Japanese Kamikaze Pilot hit his ship. He was lost in the ocean for 13 hours before being rescued. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was retired from the Chrysler Corp. in 1986 after 20 years of service. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local 371. He loved family activities and attending his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities. He also enjoyed gardening, raising blackberries and woodworking.
Left to cherish his loving memory include a daughter, Nancy Supinger; 3 sons, Mike (wife Irene) Hagerman, John Hagerman and Scott (wife Sheri) Hagerman all of New Castle; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Sarah Hagerman and Mary Jeffries; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leanna B. Hagerman on Dec. 25,2012, whom he married May 6,1950; son-in-law Tim Supinger; 1 sister, Beulah Hill; and 5 brothers, Everett Hagerman, John Hagerman, George Hagerman, James Hagerman and Charles Hagerman.
Visitation will be from 12 noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29,2013 at Macer-Hall Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29,2013 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Sugar Grove Cemetery in New Castle.
Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Navy, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
