During the year 1914, Stantford became ill and was institutionalized at Central State Hospital in Nashville. His death certificate notes that he began receiving treatment for tuberculosis on June 1, 1917. He died there on April 30, 1918 from "Pulmonary Tuberculosis."
At that time, TB was highly contagious and deadly. Many people that contracted TB were sent away to hospitals or "institutions" because many became "crazy" as a result of the disease.
His death certificate indicates his body was returned to Celina, Clay County, Tennessee for burial but as of this date, his actual burial site is not known with certainity.

BUIRAL NOTE FROM J MCKENZIE J McKenzie Adams provided the following information:
Stantford or Stanton Rich (according to my family history and folklore) indicates the he is buried in the Tom Rich Cemetery in Clay County, Tennessee with his family.
My e-mail is [email protected] if you have any questions or can provide more information.
Thanks,
J. Kenzie Adams

Note added to Tom Rich Cemetery
When I (J. Kenzie Adams) visited Tom Rich Cemetery in 2008, the cemetery was in major disarray. There were only a few markers with writing intact. The children of Leonard Allen Rich were the only markers my father and I could find. The cemetery was grown up in vine and tree extremely bad. The cemetery is located on the Old Joe Walker Stone Road way back off of what appears to be an old "log" road. There was a camper approx. between the cemetery and the Joe Walker Stone Road. I do not know who owns the property. You can also access the cemetery by traveling north east from Doc Key Road on Neely's Creek. I would ask permission before traveling to the cemetery.
