She married a Virginia native, Meredith Lee Gardner and they are the parents of Frances Elizabeth Gardner Scott, Josephus Gardner, Clara Etta Gardner, Eddie Lee Gardner and James Gardner. The 1920 census indicates that Meredith "Lee" Gardner was a Baptist preacher.
Josephus died shortly before his fourth birthday, of tuberculosis. Six months later Clara died at age 18 months, of bronchopneumonia.
When James was five Nancy was committed here. She was in care here for 16 yr 6 mos and died of chronic myocarditis and insanity.
