His obituary in the Carroll Chronicle, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, July 14, 1899.

Jeremiah Gantz, who has been an invalid for a few years past, passed from earth Sunday evening at 9 o'clock. A day or two preceding his death he was afflicted with paralysis. On Tuesday his remains were deposited in mother earth, attended by a large circle of relatives and friends.
Deceased was the youngest son of George and Mary (Champer) Gantz, and passed his early life in Union and Lee Townships at farm work and attending schools. He was born March 2, 1825, and at the age of 30 he was married to Melinda Burrier. They remained in Union Township eight years, then moved to Lee Township for two years before settling down in Harrison Township on a farm which they purchased and own today, provided with comfortable buildings. Six children were born to them but only two are living, who, with their mother, mourn their great loss. Mr. Gantz was a kind hearted man and had few if any enemies. Recently Mr. Gantz united with the M. E. Church, and Rev. Gruber conducted the funeral service.

His obituary in The Republican Standard, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, July 14, 1899.

Jeremiah Gantz, a highly respected citizen of Harrison Township, died at his late residence, Sunday night, July 9, 1899, aged 74 years, 4 months and 7 days. The deceased had suffered for more than a year from a complication of heart and stomach troubles. He bore his pain with uncomplaining meekness and when his strength failed he gave convincing evidence that the Lord was his portion.
Mr. Gantz was the youngest son of George and Mary Gantz and was born on the farm of his parents one mile south of Carrollton. His father died when he was a boy of five years of age. His mother remained on the home place and reared her family six boys and three daughters and was rewarded by seeing them grow to manhood and womanhood. Mr. Gantz was married April 19th, 1855 to Malinda Burrier of Harlem. They were blessed with seven children five of whom preceded him to the spirit world. The deceased was a farmer, industrious honest and straightforward, he was a kind neighbor, a good citizen, an affectionate parent and a true friend. About six months before his death he was received into membership in the M. E. Church and gave assurance of heart in that he was submissive to the Divine will. His funeral took place July 11th and was conducted by his pastor, Rev. A. W. Gruder. A large concourse of friends and neighbors followed his remains to Grandview Cemetery where they were interred.
