In 1910 he and his parents and three siblings lived in an apartment they were renting at 400 South Alley (now Brallier Place?) in Johnstown, PA. His father worked as a laborer at a steel works.

In 1920 he and his wife and their two daughters lived in a house they were renting on Black Road in Lower Yoder Township, Cambria County, PA. He worked as a laborer in a steel mill.

In 1930 the four of them lived in a house they owned on Hemlock Street in the same township, just outside of Johnstown. Their home was valued at $3500, and they did not have a radio. He worked as a water tender at a steel mill.

In 1940 he, Jessie, their two daughters, and both their husbands lived there. Their home was valued at $4200. He worked as a laborer in a steel mill, with an income in 1939 of $1613 for 40 weeks of work. Emma's husband worked as an electrician, and Geraldine's as a laborer in a steel mill, with an income in 1939 of $560 for 26 weeks of work.
