In 1910 he and his parents and three siblings lived in an apartment they were renting at 400 South Alley (now Brallier Place?) in Johnstown, PA. His father worked as a laborer at a steel works.

In 1920 he and his wife lived with her parents and three of her siblings in a rear apartment they were renting at 218 Haynes Street in Johnstown. He worked as an engineer at a steel works, William as a shearman at a steel mill, and Arthur as a printer at the Daily News.

In 1930 he and his wife and their three children lived in a house they owned on Messenger Street in Dale, PA. They did not have a radio. He worked as a mill hand at a steel mill.

In 1940 the five of them, plus Sara's husband, lived in a house they owned on Frankstown Road in Johnstown, PA. Their home was valued at $2000. He worked as a mill hand in a steel mill, Warren as a laborer in a steel mill, and Sara as a saleslady in a five and dime store. Their incomes for weeks worked in 1939 were $1739/52, $835/32, and $364/42, respectively.
