CARTERVILLE - Barney Pulley, 82, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, with Monsignor Thomas Flach officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Riggin-Pillatsch and Burke Funeral Home in Carterville.

Memorials may be made to Lions of Illinois Foundation in Sycamore.

Carterville - Barney Pulley, 82, of Carterville, died Friday, November 1, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, surrounded by his family. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, with Msgr. Thomas Flach officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion with military rites performed by the Marion V.F.W. Hyde-Pillow Post 1301 and the Army National Guard. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with a prayer service at 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lions of Illinois Foundation, 2814 DeKalb Avenue, Sycamore, IL, 60178-3117. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home. Barney was born on July 30, 1931, in Marion, to Barney and Pauline (Dwyer) Pulley Sr. He married Patricia J. Berkel on June 25, 1955, in Herrin; she preceded him in death on March 21, 2012. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Larry D. and Cherie Pulley of Springfield, Jerry D. Pulley and Robin Deering of Marion and Philip G. and Cindy Pulley of Normal; granddaughters, Marie and Laura Pulley, and Jessica McCowan; sisters and brother-in-law, Jane Billings of Hammond, Ind. and Marilyn and Don Gentry of Carterville; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim and Sue Berkel of Dahinda, Ill., Delores McCuan of Marion and Harry L. Crisp of Lake of Egypt. Barney was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Bob and Jack Pulley; sister-in-law, Rosemary Crisp; and brother-in-law, Mac McCuan. He honorably served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He owned and operated Pulley Electric in Carterville for over fifty years. Barney was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. He was extremely active in several organizations in Marion and Carterville, including the Carterville American Legion, Local 702 Electrical Workers and Charter Member of Marion K.C.'s. Barney was a life member of the Carterville Lions Club and Lions International. He served as past President of the Carterville Lions Club and he held many State Offices and District Offices with Lions International. He was also a member of the District Governor Lions from 1983 - 1984. Barney truly believed in the Lions International motto: "We Serve". Barney loved hunting, fishing and playing golf. He was also a big St. Louis Cardinal fan.
