Jean Dukes, a 60-year resident of Dagsboro, DE, died peacefully on Oct. 31, 2013, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, MD, after a long illness. She was 84.
Mrs. Dukes was born on Sept. 12, 1929, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Sherman and Lilly Caudell, and had one brother, the late Asabell Caudell.
For 35 years, Mrs. Dukes was a supervisor for Bunting Nursery in Williamsville, Del., overseeing crews that processed and shipped plants. She retired in 1990.
She enjoyed traveling, camping with friends, collecting designer dolls, knitting, crocheting, designing fashions for dolls that she sold, and cross-word puzzles. She also loved to cook and was well-known for her clam chowder and chili.
Mrs. Dukes is survived by her loving husband, Roland M. Dukes, of Dagsboro, and two daughters, Tina Henley (Brian) of Annapolis, and Sandie Chandler (Doug) of Frankford, and sister-in-law Olive Ann Milutin of Frankford, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery South in Millsboro, DE.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 128, Dagsboro, Del., 19939, or the Frankford Library, 8 Main St, Frankford, DE, 19945.
