John A. Goebel, 79, of W2312 4th St. Road, Fond du Lac, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mount Calvary.
He was born Sept. 22, 1926, in Fond du Lac, a son of the late Anton and Odella Engel Goebel. On June 14, 1952, he married Shirley Beau at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mount Calvary. John and his wife farmed in the Town of Forest until his retirement in 2000. John was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mount Calvary, a member of the Fond du Lac Knights of Columbus, a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and a former Town of Forest Supervisor for 25 years. He loved bowling and traveling and was very fond of his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; three daughters, Patti (Brian) Ferentz of Pewaukee, Karen Ebeltoft of Wauwega and Susan (Craig) Gierach of Campbellsport; three sons, John M. (Helen) Goebel of Fond du Lac, Charles Goebel of Fond du Lac and Tim Goebel of Fond du Lac; eight grandchildren, Kristin and Nicole Goebel, Mark and Wesley Ebeltoft, Christina Ferentz, Abby, Katie and Lucas Gierach; one great-granddaughter, Mc Kayla Goebel; two brothers, Anthony (Joyce) Goebel of Eden and James (Mary Ann) Goebel of Fond du Lac; five sisters, Bernadette (Jerry) Blatz of Fond du Lac, Lorraine Flood of Campbellsport, Marcella (Tom) Scannell of Fond du Lac, Kathleen Dietzen of Barrington, Ill., and Alice Braatz of Eden; two sisters-in-law, Jeanne Sippel of Brandon and Mary Ann Goebel of Malone. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Odella Goebel; sister and her husband, Marge (Stan) Johanski; brother, Gene Goebel; father and mother-in-law, Frank and Marie Beau; brothers-in-law, Tom Flood, Ed Braatz, Herbert Dietzen and Urban Sippel; sister-in-law and her husband, Mary Catherine (Bob) Humphery; special friend, Bob Liesendahl. * Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mount Calvary. The Rev. Gerald Pehler OFM Cap. will officiate. Burial will be at the St. Charles Cemetery in the Town of Taycheedah. * Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at the Sippel Funeral Home 1311 Thorp Street, St. Cloud, and again from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning when brief family rites will be held at the funeral home. A Prayer Service will be held at 8 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home. The Sippel Funeral Home in St. Cloud (920) 999-2291 is assisting the family.
