Long time Atherton and Menlo Park resident Tanya Desmond, 93, died peacefully on Friday, August 16.
   Mrs. Desmond was born in Nikolaevsk-On-Amur, Russia during the Russian civil war. She was raised and educated in Harbin, Manchuria. In 1940, during the Japanese occupation of Manchuria, she emigrated to the United States arriving in Los Angeles at age 20. After her first marriage, Mrs. Desmond and her first two children relocated to San Francisco.
   In San Francisco she met Daniel Joseph Desmond Jr, a partner at that time in Sterling Furniture. Upon their marriage, they combined families and made their home in Atherton where they were members of the Menlo Circus Club. Together they had two children. While raising her family, Mrs. Desmond found her faith in the Catholic Church and later returned to her roots in the Russian Orthodox Church.
   Mrs. Desmond was admired for her charm and enjoyed an active social life and travel with friends and children. Mrs. Desmond later made her home in Menlo Park.
   Mrs. Desmond is survived by her children, Lila Billings French of Kentfield, CA; Daniel Dee Desmond of Truckee, CA; and Katherine Desmond Frandsen (Mark) of Lake Oswego, OR. She is also survived by the children of Joe Desmond, Sister Patricia Desmond of San Carlos, CA; Daniel Joseph Desmond of Vacaville, CA; Michele Matthews (Edward) of Marysville, CA; and Laurie Desmond Hildreth of Sonoma, CA. Mrs. Desmond was blessed to have many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Nicholas Desmond.
