Obituary.

William Gibson, youngest son of Thomas and Elizabeth Gibson, was born near Hillsboro Feb. 25, 1837, and died at his home near Prospect church Feb. 26, 1905, aged 68 years. He was married Feb. 7, 1860, to Nancy J. Smith, who died in 1889 in Southern Illinois. To them were born eleven children, six of whom are living. On Jan. 3, 1891, he married Sophronia Knight near Harrisburg, ILL., who with two little daughters survives him. He was a soldier of the Civil War and served at the front some two years in the 12th Ohio Cavalry, Company L, returning home at the close of the war in '65. He gave his heart to Christ and united with the Presbyterian Church at Marshall In 1866. He served as ruling elder in the Fall Creek Presbyterian Church of Kenton, Ohio. He spent several years in
Illinois and Tennessee, returning to this county six years ago. After returning here he placed his letter in the Hillsboro Presbyterian Church, of which he was a member at the time of his death. He enjoyed the church services and took a great interest in Sabbath School work, of which, at different times, he acted as teacher or superintendent. During his last illness, which covered a period of some months, he looked forward calmly to the end, which he believed was near. He trusted not in himself, but in Christ who had paid the debt for him. As he drew near the end he said to his sister "The prospect ahead is a glorious one," and as he entered the "valley of the shadow" he said to his son "There are chariots all around me, the most beautiful things I ever saw," then closed his eyes and in a few minutes had joined the host on the other side. Besides his wife and two little daughters, Nellie and Emma, his daughter Myrta, of Dayton, and his son Fred, W., of Nashville, Tenn.. were privileged to be with him when the end came. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church at Marshall on Tuesday, Feb. 28, conducted by Rev. W. C. F. Lippert, and his body was laid to rest in the cemetery at that place.
