He was the 6th of 11 children born to Willis A. Simmons and Mary M. Mair.
His father Willis died from pneumonia in 1936. Elmo struggled with his brothers and sisters to help maintain the family.
With the onset of WWII, Elmo entered the military along with his older brothers. He served in the US Navy as a boatswain mate 3rd class and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He married Deon Spencer on November 26, 1946 in Evanston, Wyoming. They had 6 children all born in Salt Lake City, Utah
He worked for Ken Garff Co for 40 years in Salt Lake serving as parts manager.
Elmo and Deon and family lived on California Ave, then moving to Glendale Park and then to the upper east side of the valley. Upon his retirement, Deon and Elmo moved to St. George Utah in about 1988 residing in two locations.
Elmo was a very well liked person with a gregarious friendly nature. He was fun to be around and told many stories of his life experiences. He was philanthropic and cared for his family and friends.
Elmo died on Oct. 11, 2005 in Saint George Washington County Utah, USA
He is survived his wife Deon and by six children, Steve and wife (Gail), Rick and wife (Judy), Larry and wife (Joni), Gregg and wife (Anne), Elynne and husband (Michael), Gale, her daughter Heather and husband (Chad); 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
