Harold C. 'Junior' Lurkins, age 75 of Greenville, passed away 11:50 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2013 in Helia Healthcare, Greenville. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville with Darryl Bolen officiating. Interment will be held in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. For those who desire, memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Greenville Masonic Lodge or the donor's choice. Harold Clayton, the son of Harold Clayton Sr. and Nellie Mae Enloe Lurkins, was born December 18, 1937 in Greenville, Illinois. Junior grew up in Bond County, attended the local schools and graduated from Mulberry Grove High School. He served his country after high school in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge, he worked for Coates Steel Ball in Greenville. Mr. Lurkins worked for Greenville Concrete and Taylor Ready Mix for many years driving a concrete truck. Junior loved horses, he cared and raised horses on his farm north of Greenville. Junior Lurkins was active in serving and helping the Bond County Republicans. Junior had been a precinct committeeman in Old Ripley Township for over 50 years. In 2009 Junior received the Bond County Rpublican Recognition award for excellence as an outstanding volunteer in the Republican Party. Junior served as campaign coordinator for many district and statewide candidates throughout the years. Junior and Bernice Lurkins were united in marriage on November 5, 1960. They were later divorced in 2006. Surviving are their children; Clyde Lurkins and Ron (Susan) Lurkins, grandchildren Tucker, Taylor, Tiffany, Megan and Cortney. He is also survived by his sisters Sara (Earl) Bare and Loretta Gribble and brother-in-law Eldon Nowlin. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Lavada Nowlin.
