O.M. DIRMEYER FALLS TO DEATH IN CHURCH

Beloved Custodian of Methodist Church is Victim as He Prepares for Sunday services.

One of the worst shocks received by this community in many months was the death of Ora W. Dirmeyer, 61, custodian of the Methodist church and former prominent resident of Washington township, who fell while adjusting the lights at the church, last Saturday afternoon.

Mr. Dirmeyer, generally admired for his devotion to the work of the church, was hurrying to replace the lights in preparation for the Sunday services, when by mistake he stepped on a weak brace and dropped fifteen feet, striking the back of a heavy seat.

Although unconscious when picked up, he was rushed to a Lima hospital, where he passed away Saturday night. His back was believed to have been broken when he fell.

Funeral services were conducted at the church on Tuesday afternoon in the presence of a crowd of relatives and friends, that filled the auditorium almost to capacity. Rev. Robert Kennedy, pastor of the church and Dr. David H. Bailey, who assisted, consoled the sorrowing ones as best they could, with the thought of the admirable Christian character of Mr. Dirmeyer had prepared him to meet death so suddenly.

Members of his Sunday school class and of Washington grange of which he was a member for several years and an active member, until moving to Ada.

Surviving are the widow, now almost prostrated with her loss and three daughters, Mrs. R.N. Schoonover, Kenton, Mrs. C.H. Kahler, Dola and Mrs. John Ewing, Kenton; six brothers, George of Lima, John of Findlay, Charles of Detroit and Ed, Will and Hamilton, all of Dola; also one foster son, Ben Cooper of Findlay and many relatives.
