The sweetest and smartest dog - ever. I was out checking cattle in the hills when I came upon two abandoned dogs. Of course they came home with me. Both were in rough shape. I can't imagine what I would do if I met the person who dropped them in the middle of nowhere. I put ads in the newspapers and found a home for the "other" dog. Lucky had found her home. Once she realized that Lucy the cat was not lunch - all was well. Ty liked her and they got along fine. She was such a pleasure to be around, and very affectionate. Her tail was always wagging. Come to think of it, she was the only dog at that time with a tail - not a stub. Yes, I miss that thumping sound. Lucky loved to swim, and was often in the irrigation ditches. She was quiet when going for rides, unlike vocal Ty. Lucky was also protective and fierce. She dispatched raccoons with a vengeance and put the run on coyotes. Somehow, I was able to keep her away from rattlesnakes. When Sugar joined the pack, Lucky allowed her to take on the alpha female role. What patience she had with that tiny pup! She acted as if Sugar was her pup, and put up with more than she should have. I don't know when Lucky was born. I found her in 1997, and the vet estimated her age at two then. She had a full life - and my life was richer with her.
