Earl Cowgill, Long an Abstractor Here, Dies at Age of 77
Earl Cowgill, 77, a veteran abstractor, died this morning at a St. Joseph hospital, after an illness of one week. He made his home with his daughter, Miss Dorothy Cowgill, 2733 Seneca street.
On Sunday, Feb. 24, 1963, a feature story appeared in The Sunday News-Press, on Mr. Cowgill's completing his 50th year as an abstractor the previous week. At that time he was employed by the St. Joseph Guaranty Title Co., 513½ Francis street, a company he helped form 52 years ago. He later sold his financial interest in the company, but kept on working there. He started his abstracting work on St. Patrick's day, 1913.

Born at Hamilton, Mo., Mr. Cowgill came to St. Joseph after working a short time in Jefferson City in the state treasurer's office. Earlier he had been city treasurer at Kansas City.
