Louis Tom Barber, 93, a lifelong resident of Lac Courte Oreilles, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, at his home.

He was born June 15, 1902, at Whitefish on Lac Courte Oreilles, son of Tom and Charlotte Barber Carroll. He attended school at Hayward and Tomah. He worked in forestry and realty for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and did mapping and surveying work for that agency. He was married to Elizabeth E. James. He was a 4th degree Mide'win.

He is survived by four sons, Louis R. "Dick" Barber, Hayward, Robert E. "Bud" Barber, Gaiashkibos (Rita) and Darryl D. "Dino" Barber, all of New Post; three daughters, Rose Burns and Julie (George) Taylor, Hayward, and Denise "Hootie" Smith, New Post; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; one brother, Ed Barber, Hayward, and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Elizabeth; a son, Louis G.; and infant children, Wayne, Mary Lou, and Eleanor; and granddaughter, Dancing Star St. John Barber.

Tribal Rites were conducted at 12 noon Friday, Oct. 6, at New Post Elderly Center, with Archie Mosay officiating. A feast began at 11 A.M. Burial was in Round Lake Cemetery. Visitation was after 5 P.M. Thursday at the New Post Elderly Center.

Honorary bearers were Jim Funmaker and Rusty Barber. Casketbearers were Lawrence "Bubby" Barner, Richard Lonnie Barber, George "Buck" Taylor, Joshua LaRush, Raymond and Richard Burns
