William Popejoy arrived 'date unknown' on the ship, Samuel, or Comfort, from BRISTOL, ENGLAND. The shipmaster was THOMAS WARNES. His BONDMASTER was THOMAS LAWRENCE. These emigrants were of all sorts and conditions: a few pardoned criminals, some political prisoners, some children and apprentices who had been kidnapped and sold, but the majority were respectable and industrious men and women; they chiefly for transportation charges, bound themselves for a fixed term, usually under 5 years, and they expected to become freeholders, commonly of fifty acres of land, each, at the end of their period of service.
