Emily was born July 19, 1922 in Nowata, Oklahoma to George and Jeannette (Simpson) Schwabe. She graduated from Tulsa Central High School and The University of Tulsa.
Emily married Charles "Clayton" Bailey on February 21, 1946 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Emily and Clayton spent the majority of their married life in Eureka, KS. They owned and operated businesses in Eureka, including Bailey Bottling Company and a Western Auto store. Emily and Clayton traveled in retirement, spending winters in Arizona and summers in Colorado. Emily spent the last few years of her life in Pittsburg, KS.
Emily was a long-time member of the Christian & Congregational Church in Eureka, KS, followed by membership at the Presbyterian Church in Pittsburg, KS. She was a 4-H leader in Greenwood County, helping many girls learn to sew. In addition to spending time with her family, Emily enjoyed working with her flowers, knitting, quilting, and playing cards.
Emily is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jeannette and Jerry French of Ft. Collins, CO; her daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Steve Murphy of Girard, KS; her grandchildren, Jim French of Denver, CO, Jon and Tenley French of Ft. Collins, CO, Joy French of Missoula, MT, Jeff and Sabrina Murphy of Girard, KS, and Molly Murphy of Wichita, KS; and 6 great grandchildren, Denae French, Dahlia French, Davis French, Owen Murphy, Aubree Murphy, and Ellie Murphy.
Emily was preceded in death by her husband Clayton in 2001, her son Cliff in 1968, and her brothers George, Bob, John, and Bill Schwabe.
A celebration of Emily's life will be held Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the Christian & Congregational Church in Eureka, Kansas with Rev. K.O. Noonoo and Rev. Rhonda Almond officiating. A reception and time of sharing will follow in the Fellowship Hall at the church. Family graveside services will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka. The family requests memorial contributions to The Presbyterian Church, 520 N. Pine, Pittsburg, KS 66762 or the Christian & Congregational Church, 117 E. 3rd St., Eureka, KS 67045.
