Jesse Darlington was the son of Thomas and Hannah Brinton Darlington. He married Amy Sharpless on November 17, 1758 and together they had nine or ten children. These were Martha, Rhoda, Mark, Edward (a Congressman), Samuel, Benjamin, Joshua, Thomas, Jared, and according to some sources Amy.
Jesse ran a dairy and was the first person to introduce ice to the Philadelphia market as a method for keeping butter fresh.
