Eli Reno was born on June 7, 1793 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. His parents were prominent Virginians who moved the family from Pennsylvania to Tennessee about 1800. Here he met and married Rebecca Kirksey, the daughter of a respected North Carolina family. They had the following children:

Polly A. Reno, born about 1823, who married Constant Mazoe on January 10, 1839 in Hamilton County, Illinois. She died about 1845.

Elizabeth Maria Reno, born on July 12, 1824, who married Adam Douglas on November 4, 1842. She died on April 30, 1876.

Aramenta Jane Reno, born in 1829, married James W. Mason on December 11, 1851.

Maramia C. Reno, born in 1830, married Robert Douglas on October 23, 1848. She died on August 15, 1851.

John Wesley Reno, born on June 8, 1831, married Content Andrews in 1853. After her death, he married Ida J. Kennedy in 1879. His death occurred on October 27, 1910.

William Durgen Reno, born about 1835.

Emeline E. Reno, born in 1837, married Edward Schwartz of Jackson County on August 30, 1860. After his death, she married Freeman King, the husband of her deceased sister, Rebecca.

Rebecca Reno, born in 1838, who married H. Kimmel on May 4, 1855. After his death, she married Freeman King. [From a flower by Gayle Foertmeyer Putt, It was Rebecca Kirksey Reno, widow of Eli, who married Henry Kimmel on 4 May 1855 in Randolph Co, IL and then moved to the Kimmel farm in Jackson Co, IL. Her daughter, Rebecca Reno, married Freman Kin on 23 Jan 1879 in Jackson Co, IL. She was Freeman's 2nd wife. They had 3 children, Elizabeth, Emmeline & Ella.]

The Reno family is French in origin, the ancestors of Eli Reno having settled in Virginia in 1700. The name was originally spelled Renault. Eli and Rebecca Kirksey left Tennessee to settle in Town Precinct, Hamilton County, Illinois, with their three small daughters: Polly Ann, Elizabeth Maria and Aramenta Jane in 1830. All the other children were born in Hamilton County and he brought the family to Randolph County in spring of 1840. Mr. Reno was a farmer and shoe maker and died on his farm on September 10, 1850. He is buried with his daughter, Elizabeth Maria, and her husband Adam Douglas, on a farm across from the old Union School House. His daughter, Maramia Reno Douglas, is also buried there. - Patricia Yost

From contributor Mary Smith-Heberlie, According to the Federal Census Mortality Schedules for 1850, Eli died Sept. 1849. His name on this census was Eli Reyno and he was born in Kentucky. He was a farmer and died of Cholera.
