Wilma J. Nichols, 82, of East Smithfield passed away on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre. She was born on May 9, 1931 in Sayre, the daughter of the late Leon and Flossie Wakely Jackson.

Wilma was a 1949 graduate of SRU High School. She worked for Acme Supermarkets as a clerk from 1990 until her retirement. Wilma was noted for her pie baking, loved to travel, gardening, and camping. One of her favorite times was the holidays, especially spending time with her grandchildren having their Christmas cookie and tea together.

She was a member of East Smithfield United Methodist Church, serving on their Finance Committee. Wilma was a lifelong resident of East Smithfield and served on the Village Green Community Board for rebuilding the bandstand and maintaining the shrubbery and grounds. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Club in East Smithfield and was instrumental in starting the group, Order of the Eastern Star No. 76, Towanda, served as a past Matron; past member of the Lady Rebekah Lodge, East Smithfield, served as a past Noble Grand; and a member of the Bradford County Republican Committee, serving on their Executive Board.

She is predeceased by her son, Brian D. Nichols, in 2004; grandson, Larry W. Nichols Jr.; and granddaughter, Baby Girl Nichols.

Wilma is survived by her children, Larry W. and Barbara Nichols of East Smithfield, Pamela K. and Robert Clarke of Apalachin, N.Y., Alan J. and Elaine Nichols of Palm Harbor, Fla., Teresa J. and Brian Lennon of Palm Harbor, and Lisa L. Nichols of East Smithfield; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Juanita and William Raymond of Millerton, Pa., Sandra and George Rugar of LaGrangeville, N.Y., and Ronald and Janet Jackson of Sayre; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 4 p.m. at the East Smithfield Federated Church, Church Street, East Smithfield. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery, East Smithfield, at the convenience of the family.
