DEATH OVERTAKES MINER FOLLOWING LINGERING ILLNESS
_________________________________________________
Death overtook Albert Gale of this city yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the family home on East Main Street. Mr. Gale had been failing for the past three years, a complicated kidney and heart complaint gradually getting the better of him. For some time relatives had known that his case was practically hopeless and the end was anticipated.
Born in Devonshire, England, July 17, 1851, Mr. Gale came to America in 1874. For a time he resided in Michigan, following mining. Thirty-one years ago he came to California and almost ever since he has called Grass Valley his home. Of late years he was employed as shift boss at the Standard mine at Bodie, and he also worked at Alleghany, but during the years that he was away from this city his family made their home here. Mr. Gale was married at Sweetland to Elizabeth gilbert, daughter of the late Josiah Gilbert, the wife who survives him. At the time of his death he was aged 64 years and 1 month.
As a man, as a citizen and as a father and husband Albert Gale enjoyed the fullest measure of esteem. He was a good workman and as one of the great brotherhood of miners in their daily subterranean toil, in their arduous interminable delving, he always proved competent and faithful and as a result his services were always in demand. Mr.Gale was formerly one of the owners of the famous "Cabbage Patch" mine.
In addition to the widow three daughters, Maria and Blanche of Sacramento and Thelma of this city survive: also two brothers and a half sister in Michigan.
The funeral will probably be held Friday.
