Homer Whitmire, Jr. passed away on December 8, 2013, at Rainey Hospice House.

Born February 14, 1932, in Jocassee Valley, Oconee County, SC, he was the son of the late Homer Sr. and Iris Lovinggood Whitmire.

Homer served with the United States Army during Korean War.

He was retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas with thirty-six years of service.

He was a member of Bojangles Coffee Club and was an Amateur Radio Operator.

For several years, in the '90s, he was on the air with WRIX Radio.

He was a believer and of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by his daughters; Diann Patterson (Joey), and Gail Anderson; granddaughter, Danielle Anderson, all of Anderson, SC; brothers, Thomas Whitmire (Julia) of Anderson, SC and Dan Whitmire (Sybil) of Pickens, SC; sister, Claudia Hembree of Taylors, SC.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters; Virginia Hamilton and Sara Jane Wooten; son-in-law, Reverend Ray Anderson, Jr.

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Jack Couch officiating.

Interment will follow in the M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veteran Cemetery with military honors.

The family will be at the home of Diann Patterson, 210 Holly Ridge Dr., Anderson and will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Upstate Hospice House, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
