He stated, "I have seen the original Huffman church records. Her name was Eleanor. It was NOT Rebecca. All of those other 3 names are German variations of Eleanor." Original German records from both churches had burned in fires before I meet him in August 1983. Mr. John Carter was an educator and 50 years of experience in genealogy and translating records. The churches where Stahlman children were baptized were several miles from Hegins township Stahlman farms. However, these earliest churches were among the first German Reformed or Lutheran congregations available to John & Eleanor Stahlman.
In his will John Stahlman provided for his wife Eleanor with sons helping her. She accompanied the sons when they pioneered 1836-1837 in Limestone township, Clarion county near the village of Frogtown. Their oldest son Solomon Stahlman pioneered in Huntingdon county, PA. where he remained for the rest of his life.
Five sons went to Limestone township. Samuel, Jeremiah, and Jacob had large adjoining farms a mile east of Frogtown. Two additional sons- Gabriel and John Stahlman developed farms west of Nevin Memorial church of Frogtown. In mid 1850 John Stahlman II moved his farming family to Eldred township just north of Roseville in Union township, Jefferson county.
