He graduated from Monessen High School and the Eckles School of Embalming in Philadelphia. Upon successfully completing the requirements for funeral directing, he obtained his Funeral Directors license in 1937; a license that he has held until his death. He was the owner and operator of the former Michael Lucas Funeral Homes in Carmichaels and Mt. Morris. When active in the funeral homes, he was a member of the Southwestern PA Funeral Directors Association, the PFDA and the NFDA.Michael was married to Anne H. (Voivoda) Lucas in February 1939, until her death on January 1, 2000. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Michael was a former member of the Greensboro Lions Club and the Charter President and member of the Carmichaels Lions Club. He was also a member and President of the former Carmichaels Rotary Club, where he had 37 years of perfect attendance. While in Millersburg he attended the Millersburg Rotary Club as a guest regularly.
Mr. Lucas was very active in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, which he helped to organize in Carmichaels. He was very dedicated to the church and spent much of his time seeing to its success. He organized the Sunday School in the church and was its first superintendent. Over the years, he spent many years on the church council and served in various offices in the church. While in Millersburg, he became an associate member of the Millersburg St. Paul's Lutheran Church and attended regularly while his health permitted.
Michael was a life member of Valley Lodge #459 F & AM in Masontown, PA, a life member of the Uniontown Lodge of Perfection and a life member of the Pittsburgh Consistory. He was also a member of the Syria Shrine Temple in Pittsburgh.
