August Kern Klapp, 84, lifelong educator, died at 9:30 a.m. Monday, October 31, 2005. He was born August 21, 1921, in Christian County, Missouri. A.K. "Gus) was a graduate of Ozark High School, Southwest Missouri State College, University of Missouri-Columbia and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He taught in Kansas and various southwest Missouri schools, retiring from the Springfield Public School System in 1983 after teaching 25 years at Hillcrest High School as English Department Coordinator.  Gus worked 28 summers as Historian at Wilson's' Creek National Battlefield.   He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Winnie (Redman) Klapp, three brothers and a sister.   He is survived by his wife, Pauline; son, Philip, his wife, Susie, and grandsons, Caleb and Nicholas of Jefferson City; and a host of other relatives and friends.   Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 2, 2005, in Walnut Lawn Funeral Home.   Graveside services with military honors will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 in Hazelwood Cemetery.   Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor's choice.   Friends may sign the guest book at www.walnutlawnfuneralhome.com
