Mrs. Augusta F. Sample, former music educator, singer, composer and drama director long active in cultural affairs here, died yesterday in a rest home. She was 87.
Widow of state Sen. Ed P. Sample, a San Diego attorney who died in 1939, Mrs. Sample was a native of Lawrence, Kan. She graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor of music degree.
Her home was at 4247 St. James Place for the more than 50 years she lived here.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs Edward I. Levy, Mrs Betty Lou Sample Jones and Edwina B. Sample, all of San Diego, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Private services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Benbough Mortuary. Cremation and inurnment will be at Cypress View Mausoleum.
Augusta is inurned in her husband's crypt -- she does not have a name plaque on the crypt.
