AJLUNI,Suheila "Sue", age 79, was born May 20, 1934 in Ramallah, Palestine . She emigrated to Detroit, Michigan in 1957 after her marriage to Karim Fred Ajluni, a prominent local attorney and former Honorary Consul to Jordan. Mrs. Ajluni was a local socialite and philanthropist, involved in many charitable organizations. She was instrumental in building the Arabic Cultural Room at Wayne State University. and was a member of the Anthony Wayne Society at the University. She was a Deacon at Kirk in the Hills Presbyterian Church. Suheila donated much of her time and energy to Arab American causes, including being one of the organizers of the first Arab World Festival in Hart Plaza, and continued in that role for many years. Also, she was active in the fundraising for the Arab American National Museum, the American Federation of Ramallah, Palestine and the Ramallah Club of Metropolitan Detroit. Suheila never lost her connection to her place of birth and founded the Friends of Birzeit University with her husband. This organization provided scholarships to the needy Palestinian and U. S. students desiring to attend this Palestinian institution. She also, spearheaded a fundraising campaign for the Friends Girls School, founded by the Quakers in Ramallah Palestine, to mark the 100th anniversary of their founding. Most of all she was a devoted wife and mother to her five children.

Suheila is survived by her husband Karim Fred, her two sons, Maher (Judy) and Dr. Samir (Lama), three daughter, Giselle Hatch, Marianne (Dr. Larry) Varley and Suzanne (Charles) Gastineau and 12 much loved grandchildren.

Visitation will be at the A.J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward Ave. (between 13-14 Mile Rd.), 248-549-0500, on Thursday and Friday 5-8 p.m. with prayers at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Service is Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Kirk in the Hills Presbyterian Church, 1340 W. Long Lake Rd., Bloomfield Hills. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to these tax exempt organizations: Kirk in the Hills Presbyterian Church, The American Ramallah Federation Human Services Network (ARFHSN) or the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn.
