Mrs. Elizabeth White Stepp of Goodman, a widely known resident of Mingo County, and a member of a family which was among the early settlers of the Tug Valley, died at 8 o’clock last night at her home. She was 81.

Mrs. Stepp had been ill about 3 weeks, but members of her family noted that her condition was improved yesterday. She suffered an apparent heart attack that proved fatal. Members of the Williamson lifesaving crew were called to the home at Goodman but any efforts to revive Mrs. Stepp would have been futile, since death had already occurred.

Mrs. Stepp was the wife of the late George Stepp, Sr., respected farmer and merchant who preceded her in death on May 27, 1915. Since his death, she had continued to maintain residence at Goodman, where she reared a large family of children.

She was born on January 1, 1874 on Pigeon Creek, a daughter of the late Stewart and Elizabeth White. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church at Falls Branch.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Loren Stanley of St. Petersburg, Florida, Mrs. Charlotte Musick and Mrs. J. E. Willis, both of Chattaroy, and Mrs. Tom V. Wellman of Fairview Addition, whose husband is a member of the editorial staff of the Williamson Daily News, and six sons; S. S. Stepp of Fairview Addition, Howard of Chattaroy, Noah, Floyd, and Thomas Stepp all at home, and John B. Stepp of Chattaroy. A son George Stepp, Jr. preceded her in death.

Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Chloe Bolen of Route 1, Delbarton, and Mrs. Julia Thompson of Chattaroy.

The body was removed to the Allen Funeral Home but was to be taken to the late residence at Goodman sometime this afternoon.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Calvary Baptist Church in West Williamson at 2 pm Thursday with the pastor, the Rev. J. O. Burnside, Sr., officiating. Interment will follow in the family cemetery at Fairview under direction of the Allen aFuneral Home.
