MOUNT AIRY, NC ~ Mr. Davis Edward Hicks, 73, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, in Summerfield, Fla.
Mr. Hicks was born in Surry County on Feb. 7, 1940, to James Edger and Nonnie Rachael Simmons Hicks.
He was retired from the United States Air Force.
Surviving are a daughter, Vicky Hicks of Mount Airy; two sons and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Connie Hicks of Mount Airy and Bruce Hicks of Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Hallie Tayman, Mary Brosley, Georgia Tappen, Patty Jean Forney and Brenda Sue Hicks; brothers and sisters-in-law, Claude and Rosa Lee Hicks, Clyde and Margaret Hicks and Delmar and JoAnn Hicks; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hicks was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Mae Wood Hicks.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at Skyline Memory Gardens with military honors conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436.
The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home beginning at 10 a.m.
