James was the sixth of nine children born to Amanda Elvira (Gasaway) and Howell M. Mason. He married Matilda J. Peers about 1897 and they had four children: Ruth E., James Marion, Elsie P. and Charles M.

C. F. Mason Gets Word Of Death Of Brother, 79

C. F. Mason of 1206 North Prospect Street just received word that his brother, James A. Mason, died Sunday morning in Los Angeles, where he had lived for the past 7 years. Ill for the past year, he was 79 years old, a member of the Christian Science Church and Destiny Masonic Lodge in Tacoma. He was born in Williamson County, Ill., came to Tacoma in 1905 and engaged in the building business, later going into the real estate business until he moved to Los Angeles in 1930.

He leaves a brother, C. F. Mason of Tacoma; a sister, Mrs. Nellie Hampe of Seattle; two daughters, Mrs. Warren Riley and Mrs. Ruth McCune; two sons, James and Charles Mason; also four grandchildren, all of Los Angeles.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 12:30 in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Los Angeles, where he will be buried.
