Daniel John Benedict, 71, of Philomath died Jan. 7 at Samaritan Albany General Hospital surrounded by loving family.

He was born in Corvallis to John and Ruth Benedict. After graduating from Corvallis High School, he served in the Army from 1961 to 1964. He married Nancy Albin in Monmouth on June 20, 1964.

After his discharge from the Army, Dan worked for ER McLagan Co. In 1968 he became a city carrier for the U.S. Post Office. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1992 and then worked as an electronics technician for Tripod Data Systems, later Trimble.

Dan was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, throwing darts and games with family, especially cribbage.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dan is survived by Nancy Benedict; son Eric Benedict and wife Jennifer; daughters Dana Iademarco and Heidi Benedict; grandchildren Candrah and Andrew Iademarco, Lilia Nunez, Aliana Benedict and Theron Benedict; sisters and their husbands, Jeanette and John Goeke of Albany, and Nancy and Kent Little of Roseburg; and brother Steve Benedict of Harrisburg.
