Ernest Parker NORFOLK
Ernest Parker, 88, of the 2500 block of Ballentine Blvd., was called home Nov. 11, 2005. He was a native of Corapeake, N.C., and the son of Calabbon and Annie Bell Parker. He was the widower of Ethel Parker after 53 years of marriage. Mr. Parker was a faithful member of Olive Grove Baptist Church and was the founder of the male Usher Board. He retired from Canada Dry Bottling Company after 30 years of service. He was a funeral attendant for the E.A. Hughes Home for several years. He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Leroy Parker Sr. and his wife Marie and Charlie Parker Sr. and his wife Shelia; a brother, Sidney Parker of Philadelphia, Pa.; three sisters, Dollie Walker and Vera Goodman of Norfolk and Margaret White of Suffolk; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a son, George Parker Sr. and a daughter, Essie Mae Morrison. Ernest also helped raise his natural grandson, Leroy Parker Jr. and his widow’s natural grandchildren, Bernard, Samuel, David, Larry, Kenny and Joyce Smith, Christine Jones and Valerie Otey. He will also be sorely missed by two former daughters-in-law, Vanzy Parker and Dorothy Ames. A funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Olive Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Harry Davis officiating. Burial will be at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. and at other times at 2515 Ballentine Blvd., the home of Charlie and Shelia Parker.
