Alberta (Pierce) Abbey, 88 went to rest peacefully Thursday with her family by her side.
Alberta was born in Russell and has lived in Feeding Hills for the past 58 years. She retired after 30 years as Phys. Ed. Teacher for the City of Westfield and was active in her retirement as a substitute teacher in Agawam.
"Berty" graduated from Westfield High School, and Boston College and received her Master's degree in Education and Counseling from Springfield College. She was a member of the Massachusetts Retired Teacher's Association.
She is survived by her three children Gregory Abbey of Sterling, VA, Alan Abbey of Springfield, MA and Ann Abbey of Agawam, MA and was predeceased by her husband Richard.
The funeral will be held at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home Tuesday at 11:00 am followed by burial in Springfield Street Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4:00 - 7:00pm. For more details please visit curranjones.com .
