CUMBERLAND - Roger M. Godin, 91, of Cumberland died March 9, 2016 in Oakland Grove Health Care Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of Cecile R. (Trudell) Godin of Cumberland. Born in Millville, MA, he was the son of the late Romeo H. and Yvonne (Gauthier) Godin.
Mr. Godin attended Blackstone High School and was a WWII Army Veteran who participated in the invasion of Omaha Beach and The Battle of the Bulge. Roger worked for thirty years as a truck driver and supervisor for Edgecomb Metals, North Smithfield, retiring in 1987. He was a former member of the Leclair, Kozolic, Logan & Bassett VFW, Forestdale and the Knights of Columbus Frehill Council.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Roger A. Godin and his wife Marva of Landisville, PA; one daughter, Nadine Godin-Nassaney and her husband Michael of Kalamazoo, MI; three step-children, Pierre Caouette and his wife Lori of Claremont, NH, Marc Caouette and his wife Michele of No. Smithfield and Michelle Murphy and her husband Paul of Cumberland; one brother, Romeo Godin of Mansfield, MA; two sisters, Pauline Jolicoeur of Woonsocket and Evelyn Leduc of Landsdowne, VA, fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Godin, his sister Doris Beauchemin and step-daughter, Jacqueline Chamberland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 in St. John the Evangelist Church, 63 Church St., Slatersville. Burial with military honors will follow immediately at the parish cemetery.
