Bo was pretty old when he found us and we fell in love with him. We lived in a rural area with no houses close to us. There was a feral cat who stayed in the pasture next to our house. I tried to capture her, but had no luck. I did put food out for her every day in a bowl on the front porch. I checked it every morning before going to work to see if it needed to be refilled. Usually it had a few pieces of food left in it, but this particular morning it was completely empty. That was the first time. I opened the front door to refill the bowl and this little gray schnauzer walked into the house. He wasn't even afraid of the two german shepherds, Bear and Teddy, who rushed over to sniff him.

Bo was stinky and dirty and looked like he had been on his own for a pretty good while. I checked with all local vets and put signs everywhere to see if his owner could be located. In the meantime I cleaned him up and took him to the vet for a check up. The vet told me he was probably about 12 years old. The lashes on his left eye were all poking into his eye. He was blind in that eye. The vet told me although he was blind it was still painful for him to have the lashes in his eye like that. I still didn't know who he belonged to, but decided to get him the help he needed. The vet gave him all required shots and ended up removing Bo's left eye and pulled 6 teeth.

Bo stayed at our home while we searched for his owner. At that age, we were sure someone was lookng for him. He was happy with us and enjoyed playing with the big boys. He kept up with them pretty well. Lucky for us, no one came to claim Bo.

After we had Bo for about six months he fell while trying to hike his leg to pee and he began dragging his back legs. I took him back to the vet. I cannot remember what the vet said the problem was, but he did tell me it wasn't going to get better; only worse. He said he just had put his own dog down for the same reason and suggested I do the same for Bo. I didn't expect that and surely didn't want to hear it, but I did want to do what was right for Bo. I asked if I could spend some time with Bo and they said yes. I held him and talked to him and told him how much he was loved, then I said good bye to him. I would have given anything not to have had to do that.

We still think about you and love you Bo and miss you so much.
