He was born in Kingsport and had lived here all his life.
Mr. Owens proudly served as a gunner’s mate in the U. S. Navy during WWII in the Atlantic Theater. He retired from Eastman Kodak as an operator in the C. E. Division after 39 years of service. He was of the Christian faith.
He was dedicated to his family, friends and to his animals. Mr. Owens loved to read, work crossword puzzles and caring for his dogs, T.J. and Maggie.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marsha Smith; son, David Owens; parents, Seldon and Trina Hale Owens; a sister Jerri Guthrie and brothers, William Owens and Robert Owens.
Surviving are his loving wife of 68 years, Drucilla Blankenbeckler Owens; daughters, Donna Davis and husband, Ronnie, Patricia Wampler and husband, Benny and Elizabeth Rains; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; son in law, Bobbie Smith and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 pm Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Oak Hill Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life Service will follow in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Grimes officiating.
Military Entombment Rites will follow at the Oak Hill I Mausoleum, conducted by the American Legion Post 3/265.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105-3678 or to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, 950 W Faris Rd, Greenville, SC 29605.
