William S. Damrell Jr. was the son of William Shapleigh and Adeline A.(Neff) Damrell. His father was a former U.S. Congressman from Massachusetts. He served during the Civil War in the 13th Regiment Rifles Mass. Volunteers. he started as a sergeant and received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant on March 6, 1863 at the age of 24. He married Miss Abbie E. Hinkley on October 7, 1868 in Springfield Mass. He died October 16, 1873 in Springfield of consumption.
