(1860 - 1941)

Michael Nitka, 83, of 1322 So 16th street, employed on Great Lakes Vessels for many years until his retirement about ten years ago, died at 2 o'clock this morning at Holy Family hospital after a short illness.

Mr. Nitka was born in Poland in November, 1857, and came to the United States at the age of 14. Since that time he has made Manitowoc his home. Sixty years ago he married Miss Josephine Niespodzany. She died 12 years ago.

The survivors are five daughters Mrs. Dominic Kowalski, Mrs. Wencel Ziarnik, Mrs. Felix Meranda, Mrs. Victor Schultz and Mrs. Matt Lambries and four sons John, Joseph, Michael Jr., and Ted, all of this city; 15 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic church with the Rev. John Landowski officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery. The body may be viewed at the funeral parlors from 7 o'clock until the time of the services.
