Raymond R. Finn, 88, passed away at his home in Springwater, Sunday morning, Sept. 19, 2010.

Ray was born June 3, 1922, in Junius, N.Y., the son of Francis and Edith (Scribner) Finn. He grew up in and around the Newark area and as a young man, he served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Ray entered into active duty in March of 1943 and was honorably discharged in December of 1945. Upon his return he settled in the Clifton Springs area. On Nov. 10, 1960, Ray and Phyllis Quinn were married and together they have celebrated nearly 50 ears of marriage.

Ray's employment career was spent entirely as a restaurant/bar/hotel owner. Throughout the years, he owned and operated Ray's Grill on Sodus Point followed by Finn's Grill in Springwater, the Bryant Hotel in Wayland and finally Finn's Hotel on Sodus Point. Ray retired from his self-employment approximately 26 years ago. His hobbies were many as he enjoyed hunting, fishing and travelling around the U.S. as he visited almost every state. Ray also enjoyed membership in many organizations. He was a life member of both the Springwater Legion and the Palmyra Moose Club along with being a member of the VFW. He was a very active person that enjoyed working and being involved.

Ray was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Edith Finn; a grandson, Joshua Humphries; his brother, Frank Finn; and a sister, Marjorie Mingus.

Ray's family and friends may call from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. Ray's funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Reverend Dennis Swart of the Springwater Church of the Nazarene will officiate. Interment, committal prayers and military honors will take place at Union Cemetery in Livonia immediately following. (Genesee Country Express, September 23, 2010, p4)
