Deacon Joseph Allyn owned the land in Gales Ferry known as Allyn's Mountain where Commodore Decator built a fort following the defeat at Ft Griswold. The fort prevented the British forces from advancing further up the Thames River. His son Belton Allyn died at Fort Griswold. He was 17 years old and said to be the first to fall.
