Audrey Powell Hudson, 79, went on to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Jan. 5, 2014, surrounded by her devoted husband of 57 years, four children along with extended family and friends.
She was born on Oct. 13, 1934, in Dover, N.C., to Luther J. Powell and Zilphia N. Powell. She married her husband, Jack, in 1956, and supported him and raised their four children as they traveled together to Oklahoma, Texas, Taiwan, Arkansas, Tennessee, Virginia and Florida during his 22-year career serving in the United States Air Force.
They settled permanently in Mary Esther, Fla., in 1977. Audrey faithfully served at First Baptist Church Mary Esther, teaching 5th grade Sunday School, working with the children's choir, planting and arranging flowers on the property, and being an active part of the Senior Adult ministry. She ministered to church family and friends with her visits, meals and goodies. Receiving cakes and goodie bags, eating her chicken pastry, ham fried rice and other meals, and playing many, many games of Skipbo will be some of the fond memories she shared with family and friends. Her loving care extended to communities far beyond Mary Esther.
Over the years, Audrey served her community by volunteering with the Red Cross, transporting cancer patients and working with Meals on Wheels. She also worked at Wilbro Catalog Showroom for 10 years.
Audrey is survived by her husband, John W. "Jack" Hudson; children, Karl (Jean) of Columbia, S.C., John (Susan) of Greenville, S.C., Patricia (Benny) Davis of Jacksonville, Fla., and David (Kathy) of Jacksonville; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed for her love and devotion by her family, "adopted" families-Epplers, Wendts, Hales, Burroughs and Barry Nelson-and many other special friends.
Services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at First Baptist Church Mary Esther, viewing at 10 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. A burial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 10, at the Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Fla. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Florida Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Box 8190, Lakeland, FL 33802.
