An Army brat, Jane graduated from high school in Columbus, Georgia. (Her father was stationed at Fort Benning during that time) She went to Wesleyan Collage in Mason, Georgia, and then on to the University of Missouri.

Ruth was working for the War Department in Washington, DC, at the time of Peal Harbor and stayed there until 1944 as Administrative/Personnel Officer. In 1944 she went out to Wichita, Kansas, to put in flying time to apply for the WASPS (Womens Air Force Service Pilots).

She was accepted for the WASPS, but when the program folded she went overseas with the American Red Cross and was stationed in Karichi and Agra before going up to Tientsin China. She left Red Cross and found her father in Seoul and went back to work for the government. In 1947, she joined her sister in Shanghai and the government workers at the time were evacuated by Navy destroyer to Hong Kong as the communists moved into Shanghai.

Ruth met her husband, Bill, in Hong Kong and married there in 1950. Bill was with Caltex (the overseas company for Texaco) and lived in Manila and Bangkok and then in Europe- the Hague, Stockholm, London, and Hamburg. Ruth's oldest Daughter was born in Junction City, Kansas and second daughter in Bangkok. Two of her sons were born in Holland and the other two in Sweden. Ruth also co-edited cook books for Women's Clubs in London, Stockholm, and Hamburg.

Ruth had been a resident of Tucson since 1975 and attended Christ Presbyterian Church the entire time. She was a deacon, helped with the church's cookbook and was in charge of the Wednesday night dinners for two years. Also, Ruth served as a shepard and an usher.

Ruth volunteered her time at the West, a group of women who over the years have contributed over a million dollars to women's and children's causes, and she was on the Board of the Women's Auxiliary of the Boys and Girls Clubs.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at East Lawn Palms Mortuary located at 5801 E. Grant Road Tucson, Arizona 85712.
