He was born July 16, 1903 in an area known as Blumenfeld, in McHenry County, a son of Paul and Elizabeth Kraft. He was raised there and at Orrin in Pierce County. He worked as a farm hand there and later in the Devils Lake area for a number of years. He married Eva Bachmeier Nov. 29, 1933, at Orrin. A year later, they moved to Devils Lake where he worked in construction. In the 1940s, he went to work for the Soo Line Railroad. He retired in 1968 following employment by the Risovi-Kurtz Construction Company for a number of years.
