The wedding ceremony was conducted with the bride and groom seated on horseback.
They had 10 children: Eula, Elmer, Arthur L., Rena, Frank James, Dora, Faye Etta, Marion Rufus, Billie and Mattie Mae.
Their home was in three counties before statehood. The first was Swanson County, later becoming Kiowa, and finally becoming Tillman County. The children attended Blue School, which was near Otter Creek.
One strange family factor that is of interest was that Rufus was dark haired, and Nettie was red haired, and out of the 10 children 5 were dark haired and 5 was red haired.
In December, 1949 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. All surviving children were present.
