Lillian Amos, 97 passed on to her Creator Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at 2:45 p.m. at Hartland Nursing Home.
Mrs. Amos was born in 1908 in Fproth, Alabama, to parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and Winnie Lee Bolding.
She was married to Benjamin Anthony Amos, Sr., who preceded her in death in 1975. Also preceding her in death was her stepson, Benjamin Anthony Amos Jr., in 1978.
Mrs. Lillian Amos was a member of the Trustee Board, past president of the Missionary Board, past president of the Stewardess Board and church treasurer of the Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in Clarksburg, West Virginia, for more than 50 years. She also served on the local board of the YMCA.
Mrs. Lillian Amos was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star Howard Chapter No. 1 and past president of Mountain State Temple IBPOE of the World No. 159. In 1989, she was consecrated Deaconess in the Annual Conference A.M.E. Furthermore, and in 1992 she received an award from the elders of the church for many years of faithful service in the Allen Chapel A.M.E.
Mrs. Lillian Amos also in 1992 was inducted in the Missionary Hall of Fame A.M.E. 3rd. District.
Mrs. Amos was superintendent of Sunday school for more than 20 years.
Surviving are three grandchildren, Angela, Dwight, Van; one daughter -in-law Javerline E. Amos, Cleveland, OH; along with several cousins and a host of nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call at the Davis Funeral Home, One Olen Thomas Drive, Rt. 98, Clarksburg from 5-8 p.n. Monday, Mrs. Amos will be taken to the Allen Chapel A.M.E., 427 E.B., Saunders Way, Clarksburg, to lie in state from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6 where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Ramona Woods and Reverend James Harris will officiate. Interment will be in the Stonewall Park Cemetery.
