Johnnie D. Adams Jr., age 88, of Athens, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014, at his residence. Mr. Adams was born January 19, 1926 in Limestone County to Johnnie D. Adams Sr. and Lillian Mary Kelly Adams.
Mr. Adams retired from the TVA after 33 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII and was on The Honor Flight.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Crawford Adams; daughters, Geraldine Yarnall and husband Skip and Shirley Guthrie and husband Lavern; sons, Jerry W. Adams and wife Susan, Michael C. Adams, Jonathan L. Adams and wife Lisa and Timothy E. Adams; brother, Charles Edward Adams; sister, Lucille Tucker; daughter-in-law, Joyce Adams; 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bobby R. Adams; parents, Johnnie D. Adams Sr. and Lillian Mary Kelly Adams; grandson, Shawn Blades; brothers, Edison Adams and Ezra Adams; sister, Onnie Mae Hicks; sister-in-law, Martha Adams.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 27, 2014 at the First Pentecostal Church. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens with Bro. Rick Craft officiating. Limestone Chapel Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
