Minerva was the Civil War widow of two Union soldiers; her first husband died in combat and her second husband had been wounded and returned an invalid whom she nursed for the rest of his life. At least one of Minerva's brothers was a also a Union soldier. In addition, her father Job Irons was a soldier in the War of 1812 in Lieut. David Woodburn's Company in Col. Farrand Stranahan 16th New York Militia Regiment.

Minerva died at Grace Hospital in Detroit and her body was removed to Bay City for burial.
